Carly Pearce vs Maren Morris: ‘Stop Making Something Out Of Nothing’

March 6, 2024 - News

Carly Pearce has responded to rumours of a potential rift between herself and Maren Morris, telling any speculators as clearly as possible: “STOP making something out of nothing”.

Pearce issued a response after a fan mentioned her forthcoming collaboration with Morris’ ex-husband, Ryan Hurd.

Last month, it was announced that Pearce and Hurd would provide a rendition of Tom Petty’s 1976 single, Breakdown, for a tribute album called Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.

The album will be released on Friday, 31 May. The pair are set to appear on the album alongside country music stars, including Dolly Parton, Luke Combs, George Strait, and more.

In addition to appearing on the Tom Petty tribute album with Hurd, some fans believed Pearce unfollowed Morris on Instagram after she released her emotional single The Tree, a track that farewelled her career in country music.

Yesterday (5 March), Pearce put all the rumours to rest.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), she wrote: “Okay. Since I have seen this all over, I figured I would respond. Ryan has a been a friend of mine for over 10 yrs. I was asked by my label to record this song with him for the Petty tribute and of course I said yes because he’s a great artist. STOP making something out of nothing!”

In other Carly Pearce news, the singer announced her new album, Hummingbird, a few days ago. The album is the follow-up to 2021’s 29: Written In Stone and will be released via Big Machine Records on Friday, 14 June.

The album has been previewed by the singles We Don’t Fight Anymore (featuring Chris Stapleton), Country Music Made Me Do It, and Heels Over Head. You can pre-order/pre-save Hummingbird here.

Recent reports indicate that Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd reached a divorce agreement after Morris filed in October. They agree on all issues surrounding their divorce, with the former couple signing notarized documents on 28 December and 4 January, respectively.

Meanwhile, in September, Morris revealed that she was planning to depart country music, citing the sociopolitical divide amongst country music artists and its fans, which she said has become a miserable hurdle that began “after the Trump years”.
