Bringing the country to LA.
This morning, the Recording Academy announced the first round of performers for the show that’s set to take place this weekend, which includes country music’s own Lainey Wilson and Brad Paisley. Of course, Lainey Wilson is one of the biggest and most notable faces in country music right now, but Brad Paisley? A country music legend, no doubt, but he hasn’t a #1 hit in over a decade and the last time he had two chart-topping hits in a row? 2011. A bit of a head-scratcher… but I have to imagine he has some kind of tribute to the Los Angeles wildfires.
Other than those two, Chapelle Roan, Shakira, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Benson Boone, Doechii, RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims, Chris Martin, Sheryl Crow, Brittany Howard, Cynthia Erivo, Herbie Hancock, Jacob Collier, Janelle Monae, John Legend, St. Vincent and Stevie Wonder round out the list as performers.

Notably for this year’s country nominees, the genres biggest star Morgan Wallen was largely ignored, except for the song he’s a featured artist on with Post Malone, “I Had Some Help,” which is sure to win one of the categories.
Post Malone and Beyoncé racked up quite a few nominations for their respective F-1 Trillion and Cowboy Carter, but the country critic in me has a hard time buying into the fact that two artists who are from outside of the genre (and are massive superstars in other genres) should win this category with their first ever country albums. Not to mention, Beyoncé explicitly said that Cowboy Carter was NOT a country album, but then clearly submitted for the country category.
In addition to performing, Lainey is nominated for Best Country Album for her 2024 Whirlwind record.
The 67th GRAMMY Awards will air live on CBS and Paramount+ this Sunday, February 2nd at 8PM EST at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
