Scottie Scheffler Draws Harrison Butker Comparisons After Saying His Chef Is His Wife: “She’s Pretty Cute”

Scottie Scheffler

A little controversy for the number one player in the world?

Everyone in the golf world freaked out when the news broke last month that Scottie Scheffler had “a kitchen accident” that forced him to have emergency hand surgery. Fortunately, the surgery was successful and the 13-time PGA Tour winner is already back out on the golf course playing competitively… albeit a month later than he anticipated.

And just as a reminder, Scottie also got arrested last year before the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. All that being said, I’m sure Scottie is looking forward to a less dramatic 2025.

Scheffler finally revealed what caused the hand injury while he was talking to the media ahead of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He and his wife, Meredith, were apparently preparing made-from-scratch ravioli in a rental house. They didn’t have the proper kitchen tools, so they turned to a “cooking hack” that involved a wine glass, as he explained:

“We wanted to make them from scratch, so you’ve got to roll the dough and you’ve got to cut the dough. But we were at a rental house so we didn’t have the right tools and the only thing was a wine glass that we found. It broke and the stem kind of got me in the hand. It’s one of those deals where – I can’t live in a bubble, got to live my life, and accidents happen.

You know, it could have been a lot worse. I actually talked to somebody who did the exact same thing and the stem went straight through their hand. It’s one of those deals where immediately after it happened I was mad at myself because I was like gosh, that’s so stupid but you just don’t think about it when you’re in the moment.”

Sounds like a terrifying experience, and a good excuse to order some takeout from here on out.

When one of Scheffler’s fellow PGA Tour members, Rory McIlroy, was asked about the incident, he suggested that Scottie could use some of the $29 million dollars that he won just last year to hire someone to cook for him and his wife:

“I think he made enough money to hire a chef. It’s like… why are you cooking for yourself? I was hoping it was going to be a bit more fun of a story than that. Firstly just concerned and hoped he was okay. It sounds like he is and it’s good that he’s teeing it up this week. But, yeah, get a chef.”

Hey, doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me. Scheffler won so much money in 2024 that he probably doesn’t even know what to do with it all. A chef could be a great use of his winnings.

Though I also understand that Scottie was probably just trying to share a nice night with his wife, staying in and cooking together. It doesn’t get anymore romantic than cooking a nice meal from scratch with the love of your life, am I right? I’d imagine that’s why he chose not to hire a chef for this particular ravioli dinner.

That’s probably the answer he should have given instead of the one that he told the media. Reporters told Scheffler about the idea that Rory had suggested, and Scottie fired back with this quip:

“I actually do have a chef. Her name is Meredith, she’s pretty cute.”

Obviously, the best golfer in the world didn’t mean any harm by that statement. Scheffler delivered the line more as a joke than anything else, but the internet started doing its thing, comparing what the pro golfer said to what Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker previously stated (and implied) about the traditional role that women should play in the household:

Calm down…
