Hey NFL… you still thinking about Chris Stapleton’s National Anthem performance from Super Bowl LVII?
That’s okay. The rest of us are in the same boat. It’s one of those performances that sticks with you, and the country music star’s rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” should go down as one of the best of all time. I’d say the only other performance that rivals Chris Stapleton’s would be the late, great Whitney Houston’s from the 1991 Super Bowl.
In the rare case that you’ve never seen the video, first off… I’m jealous that you get to watch and listen to this for the very first time. Secondly, it’s truly a phenomenal display of an artist in their peak form not only honoring the cherished song, but also managing to rock the ever-living daylights out of it (respectfully, of course).
I’m not sure anyone was truly ready for Chris Stapleton to bring the house down with his performance like he did. Most country music fans know that he’s one of the best vocalists in the entire music industry, yet somehow he still managed to exceed expectations.
That’s why the NFL is still talking about it two years later.
Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, which is now just mere days away, the National Football League utilized their official social media account to basically ask one question: everybody remember how badass Chris Stapleton’s “Star Spangled Banner” was?
When you take a moment to fully digest the moment, it really had everything you could ask for. Stapleton was wearing sunglasses inside, his guitar playing perfectly complimented his otherworldly vocals, and grown men were brought to tears by the beauty of it all.
The NFL used the excuse of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles rematch to post the video once again, but I think we all know that they just can’t get over how good the performance was like the rest of us:
“The last time the Chiefs and the Eagles faced off in the Super Bowl, Chris Stapleton had a National Anthem performance for the ages.”

Could they not just play that one back for this year’s Super Bowl?
This Sunday, the honor will actually go to R&B singer Jon Batiste. I’m sure he’ll do a fine job with the National Anthem, but it’s one of those situations where you hate to follow up a legendary performance – even if it’s been a couple of years now since Stapleton blew everyone away.
Seriously though… pop artist Pink came out afterwards and straight up asked why anyone besides Chris Stapleton would ever sing the National Anthem ever again. And I’m with her. The “White Horse” singer just set the bar so high with his rendition, and I’m afraid from here on out, people will say, “That was good… but was it Chris Stapleton good?”
And while we’re talking about different National Anthem singers, I’d be remiss if I didn’t direct you to one of the worst National Anthem performance to ever exist. It’s jarring how bad this one is, especially if you’ve just watched Chris Stapleton’s version above:
