Getting the last laugh.
We all remember what it was like back in 2020, when the government was shutting down public parks and encouraging people to rat out their neighbors for standing too close to each other or having too many people in their home.
It was insane at the time, but looking back now just really makes you realize how stupid things were.
At the time, a Christian singer named Sean Feucht received a ton of backlash for organizing outdoor worship concerts in protest of the lockdowns, and in particular the restrictions on churches. He was often threatened with arrest, and city leaders criticized him for violating social distancing rules and restrictions on large gatherings. (That was such a weird time).
Feucht held one of his protests in New Orleans back in November of 2020, and during the event Christian singer and Louisiana native Lauren Daigle happened to be riding by on her bike, so she stopped to join and ended up performing during the event.
Well New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell wasn’t happy with the event that protested the city’s pandemic restrictions, and took aim at Daigle when it was reported that she would be appearing on the broadcast of Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve live from the Big Easy.
Cantrell wrote a letter to producers demanding that Daigle be removed from the broadcast because of her participation in the maskless event:
“I ask that you immediately remove Ms. Daigle from the line-up for New Year’s Eve. Our city is grateful to have your iconic production once again broadcasting live from our streets, but we cannot abide the participation of an entertainer who put our people in harm’s way.”
Mayor LaToya Cantrell sent a letter to executives at Dick Clark Productions after word Louisiana singer Lauren Daigle @Lauren_Daigle was selected to be part of the Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast. She wants Daigle removed immediately.

Now, can we just talk for a minute about the hypocrisy here? The worship protest happened in November, which according to Cantrell “placed residents in danger,” but a month later they were going to host a live broadcast of a New Year’s Eve party. Make it make sense. Just goes to show you how stupid everything really was.
Well long story short, Daigle ended up not appearing on the New Year’s Eve broadcast, though she says that contrary to the mayor’s claims, she was never offered to perform on the show in the first place.
But now she’s got an even bigger performance in New Orleans.
This Sunday, Daigle will join New Orleans legend Trombone Shorty for a performance of “America the Beautiful” ahead of the Super Bowl, in the same city where the mayor tried to have her canceled four years ago.
And the Christian singer admits that she feels a little bit of vindication.
Daigle spoke about Cantrell’s attacks on her during an appearance on the Arroyo Grande podcast with Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo:
“To get this moment years later, I would say for anybody watching that has had their reputations smeared in any sort of way and they are just waiting for the moment of vindication, sometimes it only takes five years…
It’s not fun to have your name smeared, it’s not fun to have your reputation smeared, it doesn’t feel good, but time will tell.”
I’m sure Cantrell (who’s a disaster of a mayor anyway, and is currently under investigation for illegal spending and having an affair with her security guard while on duty) will love sitting in the Superdome while Daigle performs alongside Trombone Shorty, who himself is one of the biggest names in New Orleans.
