Buffalo Bills Mailroom Worker “Slick Rick” Tears Up After Getting A Shoutout From Josh Allen During MVP Speech: “It’s Still Like A Dream”

These are the people who deserve all the attention they get.

This past week, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was named the 2024 NFL MVP after leading his team to a 13-4 record, including an appearance in the AFC Championship and a narrow (and controversial) loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Allen passed for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns during the regular season, and the multi-threat quarterback also added another 12 touchdowns on the ground and 531 rushing yards.

At least week’s NFL Honors ceremony, Allen beat out fellow nominees Saquon Barkley and Joe Burrow to take home the award for MVP, and during his speech, he shouted out all the usual suspects: His coaching staff, team owners, teammates, his fiancee…and even Slick Rick in the mailroom:

“It takes everybody, from the equipment staff to the training room to the strength staff to Slick Rick in the mailroom to the cafeteria upstairs, it truly takes everybody to have team success.”

Quite the honor for Slick Rick to be the only staff member mentioned by name.

Well as it turns out, the shoutout came as a total surprise to the mailroom worker, who broke down in tears as he recalled the moment he heard the team QB mention his name.

Slick Rick’s real name is Roderick Morrow, and he’s been working in the mailroom for the Bills for 15 years. According to the Buffalo native, he was just as shocked as everybody else to hear his name during Allen’s acceptance speech:

“When I left work Thursday, I said, ‘If Josh doesn’t get MVP I’m gonna cry, because he deserves it. He’s that important to our team.’

So basically when I was watching the awards, he went on stage and everything, I was happy that he had won it, and it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name I just broke down. I broke down because I’m just an average person. But when he mentioned my name it was like, ‘Oh my God, he just mentioned my name on national television.’

I was just crying, I was crying and then I started getting phone calls from friends and I was crying on the phone to them. It’s still like a dream, even though I work here, but I don’t like this publicity. I’m just down to earth.”

What a legend.

Slick Rick says he’s “living the dream” working to his hometown team – though he says he’s not sure why they started calling him “Slick Rick.”

“With the name Rick, and people always through Slick in front of it… But I don’t think I’m a slick person, I don’t try to be slick or nothing like that.”

And Rick says he has no plans to leave the organization any time soon – though he admits that he doesn’t necessarily want the spotlight that he has on him now.

“I’m laid back, I really am… I come to work every day and I do what I’m supposed to do, but I feel like that’s just what I’m supposed to do…

I’m only doing my job. Why should I be considered different than anybody else that’s doing their job?”

A humble king. You deserve it, Slick Rick.
