Probably should have just ordered a bigger ride…
A “plus size” rapper has filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against rideshare service Lyft after being told by a driver that she was too big to fit in the car.
Detroit rapper Dajua Blanding, known by her stage name Dank Demoss, shared video of the interaction earlier this week after ordering a Lyft to a Detroit Lions watch party. But when the driver showed up in a small silver Mercedes Benz sedan, he told Demoss that there was not enough room in the car and that she needed to order a larger ride.
The driver said he would cancel the ride so that she wouldn’t be charged, but that there was not enough space in the backseat and that she needed to order an Uber XL instead to get a bigger car.

After video of the interaction began going viral, Lyft replied to Demoss and apologized for her experience while promising to investigate:
“We’re disheartened to look at this driver’s unacceptable behavior. Please DM us at your earliest convenience for additional support. We’d like to address this as soon as possible.”
But that wasn’t enough, and today Demoss, who said in a recent video posted to her Instagram that she weighs 500 pounds, announced that she had filed a lawsuit against the rideshare company for discrimination.
The lawsuit was filed yesterday in the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court in Michigan by attorneys attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan, who say that the driver’s actions in denying the 500-lb rapper a ride violated Michigan’s laws against weight discrimination:
“Under the law, refusing someone transportation due to their weight is no different than refusing someone transportation based on their race or religion.”
And Demoss claims that she was upset by the Lyft driver’s actions:
“I just want them to know it really hurt my feelings.”
Michigan is currently the only state in the country that bans weight discrimination.
However, it seems that in the comments on her Instagram post, most people are actually siding with the driver on this one:
“Most drivers, would’ve canceled the ride and left her standing out there. At least he was honest even though she’s in denial.”
“Love her to death but he has the right to protect his only means of transportation”
“Baby he worried about his suspension”
“I thought he was bogus til I looked at her pic”
“Nah u gon need. U-HAUL”
“Sis just make other arrangement”
“I love you girl but suspensions are expensive!”
“I am not being mean at all I’m a plus size girl myself. But you are definitely too big for that car and probably any sedan for that matter.”
“He was soooo respectful. You know you can’t fit in his car!”
“Damn that’s tough that should be a wake-up to change your lifestyle and diet”
“Bro u not the victim. The car is gonna be the victim if he gives u a ride !!!”
“This man did nothing wrong. He was respectful not rude. Quit tryna put him on blast when it’s you who needs to put down the fork hun”
And…well let’s just say that Twitter didn’t exactly have sympathy for Demoss either:

Brutal. But you know she’s going to get some kind of settlement out of this from Lyft just to make the lawsuit go away.
