Hellman’s Mayonnaise Pulls Off ‘When Harry Met Sally’ Reunion Featuring A Sydney Sweeney Cameo For New Super Bowl Commercial

The reunion no one saw coming, yet everyone has been waiting for.

People have learned to become a little skeptical this time of the year, because it’s become quite popular for reunions to be teased… only for said reunion to just be for the sake of a Super Bowl commercial. Just last year, we saw David Schwimmer and Jennifer Anniston star in a small Friends reunion on behalf of Uber Eats.

So when Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal posed for a picture and posted it on social media about a week ago, teasing that they were “reuniting for something iconic,” the masses were excitedly anticipating a When Harry Met Sally sequel. Did the 1989 romantic comedy need a rehashing? Not necessarily… but that hasn’t stopped movie studios from reviving old stories, especially as of late.

So some people thought it was legit:

Others thought that the timing of the social media post could only mean one thing: a When Harry Met Sally Super Bowl commercial. And those that were assuming that was the case ended up being correct. There’s no sequel movie starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan heading to the big screen (that we know of). Instead, the beloved actor and actress got back together to help Hellman’s Mayonnaise.

For those that haven’t seen the movie, there’s one particular scene that has lived on – and will live on – forever. That my friends is the “I’ll Have What She’s Having” moment in the movie, where Harry and Sally are sitting down in Katz’s Deli for a bite to eat and… well this happens:

Probably one of the most recognizable moments in romantic comedy history.

Crystal and Ryan recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight to talk a little bit about reuniting – and parodying – that iconic scene for the Hellman’s ad spot. The 76-year-old actor reflected on the movie some 35 years afterwards, saying that no one had really presented such a provocative conversation in a movie before When Harry Met Sally. Meg Ryan also added that the diner scene has followed her around ever since, though she thinks it’s worth the trouble because the movie means so much to so many:

“It used to be a lot, actually. It used to be anytime I went out to lunch or dinner… the fact that the scene, or this movie, is endeared to people is a gift.”

The pair ultimately decided that it wouldn’t hurt to have a reunion of sorts in order to help promote Hellman’s Mayonnaise. They obviously didn’t want to do a disservice to their beloved movie, but at the same time, Crystal and Ryan thought that it wouldn’t hurt to have a little fun with the scene that no one will ever forget.

So the two Hollywood legends basically “ran it back” in this Hellman’s Super Bowl commercial, which is titled “When Sally Met Hellmann’s.” The premise is much of the same, but with a couple of twists. Crystal and Ryan are sitting in a diner, grabbing a bite to eat. This time, it’s the Hellman’s added on to the sandwich that fosters the lively, erotic reaction from Meg Ryan.

And the hilarious “I’ll have what she’s having” line is given by none other than Sydney Sweeney:
