Eric Church Shares His 2 Go-To Hangover Cures: “Works Every Time”

Eric Church country music

Eric Church is a well-known lover of whiskey, and while Jack Daniels Single Barrel was always the go-to, he recently launched his own brand Whiskey JYPSI in 2023. These days, the father of two doesn’t quite party like he used to, but if his song “Jack Daniels” wasn’t a clear enough indicator, he’s had more than a few nasty hangovers in his day.

In his song “Drink In My Hand,” he suggests a little “hair of the dog” as a way to cure a bad hangover, and in reality, his actual recommendation isn’t too far off. He has a pretty practical hangover cure that is definitely worth trying. I’ll be honest, I don’t think there’s such thing as a cure other than just powering through, drinking Gatorade or Liquid I.V., and sleeping as much as possible. Especially as I got older, now in my later 20s, it’s just harder and harder to recover, and while I’m probably not drinking like I used to, certainly not as often, I’m always up to try something new and see if it works, especially if it’s coming from an expert like Chief. Luke Combs can personally attest to a nasty hangover after hanging out with him… so yeah, the man can drink…

In an interview with WKML last month, Church revealed that he has two strategies for curing, or at least nursing, a hangover:

“The best hangover cure – I’ve got two. One is 5-hour Energy [bottles], because of all the B-vitamins that are in it. You can start pounding those, and it’s either gonna work, or it’s gonna keep you up and prolong your misery.”

I mean, I’m not sure if I’m willing to take my chances when it comes to “prolonging” a hangover, but luckily, he has another option:

“But the other one I have is just take two Advil and a beer in the morning. Hair of the dog, man – that works every time.”

Classic… that’s always a go-to for me. Well, at least the Advil part…

And speaking of Eric, he’s set to receive the 2025 Artist Humanitarian Award alongside Luke Combs on February 21st at the annual Country Radio Seminar in Nashville due to his quick response and outstanding efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Helene.

The pair raised over $24 million for hurricane relief efforts, which was distributed to multiple different charities of their choosing.

Additionally, Eric announced that he was building 100 homes for families displaced by the hurricane, while also signing over all of the rights to his single “Darkest Hour” to the state of North Carolina so funds from it forever benefit the state. Most recently, his song “Carolina” was featured in a commercial calling visitors back to Asheville.

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s really beautiful, and you can watch it here:

And while we’re here, let’s cue up a classic. Released in 2011 as the second single from his game-changing album Chief, the song went on to become the first #1 single of Eric’s illustrious career.

Whether it’s hair of the dog, Advil, Liquid I.V., or pounding 5-Hour Energies, when the clock strikes 5 on a Friday and “Drink In My Hand” starts playing, you better have a strategy because Saturday morning is coming like a brakeless train.
