Riley Green Puts A Country Spin On John Mayer’s “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”

Just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Today, Riley Green released a cover of John Mayer’s “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” as part of this year’s Spotify Singles – Valentine’s Day edition series.

Artists regularly do exclusive singles with Spotify, in addition to reimagining their own songs, and this one is sure to have the ladies especially excited, I have no doubt about that. Of course, “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” is from Mayer’s 2006 album Continuum, and quickly became a fan-favorite and one of his most commercially successful tracks, even though it was never released as an official single.

Plenty of modern country artists cite John Mayer as one of their biggest inspirations, like Ernest and Parker McCollum, but it’s fun to hear Riley’s decidedly-country take on this classic. He definitely added the twang in the production, and these types of more simple, heart-wrenching songs.

While this song isn’t exactly a super sweet love song (if you listen to the lyrics, it’s actually pretty sad), there’s still something so sultry about it that I think fits right in line with songs like Riley’s “Worst Way” in a lot of aspects.

Right now, you can only listen on Spotify, but if you don’t use that particular streaming service, you can listen to a clip of it here:
