Chris Stapleton’s “It Takes A Woman” Wins Grammy For Best Country Solo Performance

Chris Stapleton

It might take a woman to inspire a song like this, but it takes a man like Chris Stapleton to make it a song that resonates deeply with fans.

Chris Stapleton just added his 11th Grammy Award to his shelf. The Kentucky native snagged an early award this evening, taking home Best Country Solo Performance for “It Takes A Woman.”

Chris Stapleton dominated awards shows last year and this year with the music found on his fifth studio record, Higher. The “White Horse” singer now has more Grammy Awards than most artists could even imagine. While one Grammy Award is something many musicians dream of, Chris Stapleton has reached the rare group of artists who hit double-digit numbers of Grammy wins.

While the most Grammy Awards have been won by Beyoncé, who has 32 to her name, it might surprise some readers to know that Chris Stapleton is creeping toward having the same number of Grammy Awards as mega artist Taylor Swift. Take that, Swifites…

Back to the matter at hand.

Chris Stapleton was nominated alongside Beyoncé, Jelly Roll, Kacey Musgraves, and Shaboozey. And I think we can all agree that Stapleton winning is a huge win for fans of authentic country music that an artist making “country” didn’t take home the esteemed award.

“It Takes A Woman” was written by Chris, Ronnie Bowman, and Jerry Salley. Like many of his other love songs, it is about his lovely bride, Morgane.

The lyrics detail how falling in love with Morgane changed his life for the better in many ways. As Stapleton often does for his songs, too, Morgane is featured as a background vocalist. You can genuinely feel these two’s love for each other as they deliver the heartfelt lyrics.

“And it takes a woman
It takes a woman
A woman who sees the best part of me
Through all that I am
It takes a woman
Oh, it takes a woman
To be all I can, to feel like a man
It takes a woman

You are my comfort
Whenever I’m troubled
When I’m alone
You are my friend
You make me high
And keep my feet on the ground
Whatever I need
You give it to me…”

Stapleton has also been nominated for Best Country Album, which was not announced at the time of writing. In that category, he is nominated alongside Beyoncé with Cowboy Carter, Kacey Musgraves with Deeper Well, Lainey Wilson with Whirlwind, and Post Malone with F-1 Trillion.

Stapleton is off to a good start for the evening with this win.
