New music is on the way, and seemingly soon.
Zach Bryan has been teasing new music for quite some time now. He began sharing snippets of songs he was workshopping shortly after his public breakup with Brianna Chickenfry. While that period of his life gave us “This World’s A Giant” and “High Road,” the breakup was not the only thing inspiring new music.
ZB wrapped up the Quttin’ Time Tour, which he claims will be his last major tour, took some time off, and has recently been out on the West Coast skiing, hanging out with friends and just being a dude.
Since we were gifted two singles right after the breakup, ZB also released “Blue Jean Baby” after the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC Championship and released a reimagined duet version of “Rattlesnake” with Jack Van Cleaf.
Fans have been excited about what’s on the horizon with his new music, feeling that an album was coming sooner rather than later. While longtime listeners of Bryan know that he has never taken the traditional route with his music, we never really know what he’s up to.
Last night, ZB shared on Instagram a music update that was not about a record but promised an EP coming soon. Sharing a snippet of a song that sounds very Bon Iver-inspired, ZB tagged Real Estate, Keenan O’Meara, Hannah Lynn Cohen, and Ana Monwah Lei, which all appear to be featured on the snippet of the track. The track features beautiful string melodies and lyrics with a whimsical yet heartbreaking feel. The multipart harmonies coat your ears.
While bragging about these musicians as the best of all time, he then shares a sentence that discloses the name of a forthcoming EP, which features the same name as a song he’s previously teased, “With Heaven On Top.”
“‘With Heaven On Top’ the EP is out sooner than not.”

Although “sooner than not” does not disclose an exact release date, at least ZB is giving fans confirmation that a project of sorts is on the way. However, given the number of unreleased songs ZB has been sharing on his Instagram, I would not be surprised if this was part one of a larger project or if With Heaven On Top was separate from a record.
Zach Bryan seems to continue to lean into the hurt he’s healing from post-breakup, with many recent songs featuring captions that feel very pointed toward his relationship with Bri. While there has been a lot of talk on her side about the breakup, claiming that ZB offered her $12 million to sign an NDA, ZB has yet to speak out on the matter.
However, given these captions, it feels like we might be getting a glimpse into his side of the story through the next batch of songs he gifts to fans. And even if he never speaks on it at all, he’s a songwriter… putting it all on paper and writing his way through whatever pain he’s feeling seems to be the recipe for success.
“What pissed me off is you pissed on all the friends I ever made.”

In addition, Bryan confirmed in his conversation with Bruce Springsteen that he had already written several songs for his next album. ZB also more recently teamed up with Matthew McConaughey, once again announcing a video project titled “Motorbreath. ” The project captures a two-week motorcycle ride with him and his best friends as they recorded “one final major label album.”
“This is not a film about a band, this is a film about a boy from Oklahoma. A boy who joined the Navy, with a love of writing. That writing connected with people, a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America, while recording one final major label album. Oh, and the title of the film you ask? ‘Motorbreath.’”

Because of these moving pieces, it feels like something might still be in the works later. But for Zach Bryan fans, the promise of any new music makes for a good day. So I am sure fans are giddy to hear that With Heaven On Top is (hopefully) in its final stages of creation, and ZB is true to his word that it’s coming “sooner than not.”
I can’t wait to hear what’s in store.
While you’re here, fire up “Blue Jean Baby.”
