Garth Brooks is one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time and undoubtedly one of the most popular country music artists to ever exist. Really, it’s surprising that the “Artist of the 90s” was ever one to sign autographs, given his immense fame.
In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Brooks discussed his past experiences signing autographs “til 3 am” and how that led to his stopping the practice altogether.
“It was killing the drivers. It was killing the band. Because everybody’s got to set up and wait on you,” he said.
“The sun would be coming up, [and I’d] be signing the last autograph. So, at some point, I just had to say, ‘Guys, we can’t do it.’ And that point was Charlotte.”
Brooks recalled the first time he didn’t sign autographs after a show, sharing that fans waiting outside were unhappy, but he finally felt some relief.
He continued, “I remember sitting in the front of that bus waving at people and people not being happy because that was the first time I didn’t sign autographs after a show. And it was… phew. That was 1994, maybe 1995.”
Back in 2021, Brooks revealed that he signed autographs for 23 hours straight at the 1996 edition of Fan Fest.
The Friends In Low Places singer told Billboard, “I’m not sure I could sign autographs that long, but when you get to take pictures… and then hear those stories of what that music has done [for] them, and you’ve got somebody in a suit and tie going, ‘I don’t think you’re still among the people,’ I’m gonna take those stories over any awards or anything they can give me.”
Earlier this week, country music sensation Jelly Roll revealed that Garth Brooks is his dream duet partner.
Jelly Roll said in a new interview, “I still wanna record a song with Garth Brooks. I’m still campaigning, like, don’t let my career end without me and Garth getting one in.
“Even if we just sung one together in a show, like, just anything with Garth, you know what I mean?”
Sharing how he’s locked in collaborations in the past, Jelly Roll continued, “You just gotta ask for it, man; that’s what I’ve learned. If you’re just honest with people about what you want, sometimes it happens.”
Being honest about how he feels about Garth Brooks, he quipped: “Garth, we know each other. I love you.”
